Revel in retro

Retro furniture is becoming more mainstream. People are rescuing and re-using originals and manufactures are looking back to decades gone by for their inspiration. I am particularly partial to the 1950's style just now. I just wish my mum had kept some of my grandparents furniture as they had lots of this style.

I love the mix of old with new, what do you think?

Kitchens - scandinavian style

Kitchens are always a major investment and I know a lot of people who have spent a small fortune on an all singing all dancing kitchen. My kitchen of choice would be any kitchen with a scandinavian influence. I think they have an informal quality. They are for spending time with family and enjoying a meal together.

What kind of kitchen is the kitchen of your dreams?

Playful rooms with paper lanterns

I have come across a lot of beautiful images of paper lanterns recently when looking for wedding decoration ideas. They can be pretty fun in a home too for a kids room or even for a playful grown up room! There are also some great ideas for up-cycling a basic white paper lantern. I better get the glue out.

Love the Look

I have decided it's time to start a couple of regular features, and this is the first of them. It is called Love the Look. Each week I will post a room and then post where you can find similar items to achieve a similar look.

The first is a room I found on danish site kml design. This room has a definite Scandinavian feel. I love how light the room is but it also has a cosy feel thanks to the bookcase and the kelim rug.

Here's how you can get the look:

1 - Compact Walnut Shelving Unit in Walnut from  £199
2 - Floor lamp inspired by Poul Henningsen from  $949.95
3 - Leonard arm chair from £249
4 - Kibak rug from Ikea €149
5 - Rise coffee table in Walnut from £399
6 - Karlstad modular sofa from Ikea pictured combination costs €769

Let me know what you think of the new features - I'm always happy to receive some feedback!

Make it quirky with miss matching chairs

Ever since I first saw friends I loved the fact the chairs in Monica's apartment didn't match. Miss matching chairs have been popular for years and I think it is a love it or hate it kind of look. Well, I love it - what about you?

Whiter than white home

This home in the Hague was featured in Skonahem a few years back. Now I love a white room as you have probably noticed from this blog and I have to admit there is something quite lovely about this home but I also think I would really struggle to keep it looking clean and I would not be able to resist adding a lot more colour. What do you think?

Have a lovely weekend.

Colour it with cushions

I love cushions, probably because they are one of the easiest ways to revitalise a room or to add a splash of colour is to a space. You can change your colour scheme dependent on the season by buying or making some new cushions. Cover your couch with them or throw some on the floor, it looks fab and it's comfortable too!

The results of a crafty week

I currently feature a lot of other people's images and interiors on this blog. Mainly because I haven't had much to photograph so far because I live in a rented furnished apartment with little room to be crafty and add my own bits.

I did however have a crafty week last week. Nothing major, I  painted an old TV unit white, did a small flower arrangement in a re-used tin can and whilst I was painting the TV unit I also painted some cheap picture frames white and used them to frame some scraps of fabric.

There are no photos of the TV unit as I haven't finished it yet - I am on a mission to find some nice knobs for it!

Anyway as I actually had something to photograph, it gave me a chance to practice my photography (which has never been my strong point)

I just need to move to a bigger place so I can be crafty all the time as I really enjoyed myself!

Dotty over spots

Sorry for the lack of posts last week. I was tucked up in bed on Thursday and Friday with flu and couldn't face my computer at the weekend. At least one of my symptoms wasn't seeing spots - which is what my post is about today!

It's a pattern that is always around and can have a very traditional look or a more contemporary or quirky feel. Polkadots are also versatile - small and cute or large, bright and bold. They are everywhere and I love them. Here are some gorgeous examples.

Soft rocks

I seem to be going through a felt faze just now. Today I found images of these gorgeous and playful pebble cushions by Stephanie Marin. They look amazing and judging by these images they feel pretty amazing too. There are also some very similar and equally stunning creations by Ronel Jordaan. I have included images from both. Makes me want to head to a beach pronto.
