Colour board - blue and green

I have put together another colour board because I enjoyed doing the other one so much. This combination is blue and green. I love the colour of thistles with the rich blue and bright green at the tips. These colours go together naturally and are really fresh, I think they look particularly lovely against a natural wood or stone as in the two images shown.

The paint colours are from dulux (first two) and farrow and ball (second two), names as follows from left to right:

Grecian Garland 1, Kiwi Burst 2, Cook's Blue, Pitch Blue

Where would you use this combination?

The paint colours are all from farrow and ball, names as follows from left to right:

Mini moderns for sophisticated kiddies

Have you heard of Mini Moderns? They are based in London and have a range of some gorgeous prints on wallpaper, textiles and homewares. They are influenced by designs from the 50s and these designs are predominantly for kids rooms although I wouldn't mind any of these pieces myself. They are now stocked by Heals and you can buy direct from Mini Moderns. I particulary like the Whitby cushion - in the turquoise.

Which is your favourite?

Cutting Down

I am pretty busy at the moment so I am cutting down on my blogging a bit. I am going to try to do as much as possible but may reduce the frequency of my Love the Look feature to once every two weeks as it takes me quite a bit of time to compile. You can still flick through a few old posts here, here or here.

Colour Board - Teal and Coral

Images from top left clockwise, a creative mint, chamelonite on flickr, rachel med on flickr and mon tout

I decided to put together a colour board because there are so many lovely colour possibilities out there. This combination of teal and coral would be good in an interior for a lounge or for a table setting or even for a wedding colour scheme. My personal feeling with this particular combination is that less is more. I would probably accessorize with these colours against a white backdrop and perhaps just have one feature wall or a couple of pieces of furniture in teal or coral.

The paint colours are all from dulux, names as follows from left to right:

Javan Dawn 2, Javan Dawn 3, Caribbean Dawn 3, Caribbean Dawn 1

I don't know if this will be a regular thing or not but I enjoyed putting this board together so I will definitely do a few more.

What do you think of this colour combination?

Rice new season arrivals

I know a lot of people in blog land are well aware of the wonders of Danish company Rice. I first found out about their existence because a coffee shop in Galway sells some of their gorgeous colourful goodies. Some of their products for next season are starting to feature on their website. What do you think? I love the smile doormat, just what you need to welcome people (and yourself) home on a rainy day!

Friday Favourites - note pads

I do miss having lots of paper around the house. With iphones and laptops at the centre of our lives we don't have many notepads in our place. I want to make an effort to have more around the apartment just for jotting down ideas when I think of them. They are so much nicer to read back over, especially if you keep them for years. So that's what my Friday Favourite is this week- and there are so many gorgeous ones I may have difficulty choosing.

Here are the five I have it narrowed down to -this week anyhow!

1 - Mustard leather journal from Susan Holland on Etsy  $39
2 - Spade pocket journals from Kate Spade  $18
3 - Pantone notebook from John Lewis  £6.25
4 - Pink Panama notebook from Smythson £45
5 - Bursting with brilliance notebook from Katie Blair designs on Etsy $10

Website obsession - Rie Elise Larsen

I just found an amazing website packed full of gorgeous goodies. Rie Elise Larsen is a stylist who worked for a number of the leading Danish magazines and in 2008 created her own home accessories collection.

The wrapping paper is stunning and I will certainly be purchasing some as I can never find nice paper when I am looking for it. I also love the papier mache lamps and kitchen textiles. The jewellery and bags are pretty yummy too. I think I have just found my new website obsession.

There is a list of stockists in Europe on the website and an inspiration page with lots of lovely styling ideas using these gorgeous things. Head over there now, you'll be drooling!

Hana Blomst a mix of Japanese and Danish design

What do you get if you mix Japanese and Danish design? Beautiful things from Hana Blomst. I guess it's no surprise that the outcome is so pleasing to the eye - there are a number of similar elements in both Danish and Japanese design, one major common trait I can thing of is clean lines and simple shapes.

Hana Blomst means flower in Japanese and Danish and was started by Helle and Junichi when their daughter was 2 years old and her first word was flower in Japanese and in Danish - multilingual from the get go!

I love the colours and the simple form of these beautiful pieces. Go to the Hana Blomst website for a list of stockists. For once I am in luck they don't seem to have many stockists in the UK but one is just along the road from where my mum lives!

Which one is your favourite?

Summery Home by Anna Spiro

I am posting this because I am in need of a colour fix. This gorgeous home was created by Brisbane based interior designer Anna Spiro of Black and Spiro. She posted it on her own blog absolutely beautiful things back in December, the height of summer in Australia. As it is now the height of summer over this side of the world I figured we could do with a dose of colour here too.

I love the brightly painted dining chairs and the lime green rattan chair, the cushions are pretty lovely too. Do you love this home as much as me? What is your favourite element?

Wonderfully worn

There is one trend that doesn't seem to have made it to the west of Ireland and that is the worn vintage look. Every home I go into here is full of new furniture, the best word I can think of to describe these interiors is shiny! Everything is brand new.  I guess this is an after effect that started with the Celtic Tiger (the decade of Economic high before we came crashing down with a big bang a few years back).

Because this trend hasn't hit, it is very hard to find any inspiring pieces of vintage or worn furniture. If anyone knows of anywhere on the west coast of Ireland then please do let me know. Anyway, in order for me to get my fix of all things wonderfully worn, I figured I would post a few images of a vintage variety today. Which do you prefer - old or new? I personally like a mix.
