Elephant Ceramics - makes me think of home

I just stumbled across Elephant Ceramics on Design Sponge and there is something about the pieces that reminds me of home. The texture and colours are gorgeous and remind me of seaside communities in Scotland. Michele Michael is based in Brooklyn and started making ceramics to use in her job as a home design editor and prop stylist. She recently started selling her pieces (and sold out immediately). Head over to her website to see more for yourself.

Kitchens with a Pastel Pallet

My ultimate dream kitchen has always been a white kitchen with a light wood worktop but recently pastel kitchens have been catching my eye. I saw a very specific style of pastel kitchen in Danish magazine Bolig that is particularly lovely. Maybe the safer option is to stick with my original white plan and use accessories to get the the pastel look as shown in the image below from Sussie Bell on flickr. Ahhhh dream kitchen - I will have you one day.

What is your dream kitchen like?

Stranded in Scotland

I was in Edinburgh this weekend because Brian was running the Edinburgh marathon. We were supposed to get home yesterday but our flight was cancelled due to storms. The airport is also now closed due to volcanic ash cloud. I am lucky that my sister lives in Glasgow just an hour from Edinburgh as there is a shortage of hotels. I've not had much Internet access in the last few days so making the most of it today. Lucky I had scheduled some posts for the next few days, hopefully I will be back to normal soon.

Pretty Illustraions from Coramantic on Etsy

I only discovered Etsy about 6 months back and I am still finding my way around the site. Today I thought I would search by location and decided to see what my fellow Scots are creating and selling. I discovered a lovely illustrator called Yvonne Stewart  from St Andrews with her shop Coramantic. She describes her style as cute and light with a hint of ugly! I think that is a pretty good sum up - what do you think of Coramantic's style?

I think I wouldn't mind one of these for my hallway.

Gorgeous Grey Nursery

I stumbled upon images of this nursery the other day and had to save it to post about. I have posted images of grey rooms before but I absolutely love grey with bright colours. The grey and white really lifts the colour in the room. This is an easy look to achieve with the use of a few choice colourful accessories and some bright fabrics. Never mind for a nursery, I would make my own bedroom look like this - but I am still a kid at heart!

Ikea goes Asian with a limited spicy collection

I would love to go on a shopping trip to Sweden some time - and no trip to Sweden would be complete without a trip to ikea. I think in Ikea in Sweden has a lot more unique stock, including limited edition pieces. These pics are from there latest limited edition collection, inspired by trips to India and Vietnam. I love how the Swedish style still shines through on the Asian influence pieces. What do you think?

Outdoor seating spots for spring and summer

We have just had a few weeks of good weather here which has got me well and truly in the summer spirit. I live in an apartment and luckily we have a balcony that looks west so we catch the sun in the evening. I love to sit outside on a summer evening. Don't these images just make you want to head outdoors with a glass of something cold?

Jazz it up by displaying your jewels.

I have a large number of necklaces hanging on the end of my dresser. Having your jewellery on display adds a bit of bling or colour to a room. It also means you don't forget about any of your pieces as they are always there in front of you.

There are some beautiful and clever ways to display your jewellery and add a bit of sparkle to your boudoir.

How about a pallet for your palace?

I am still loving all things upcycled and have been stumbling upon images of pallets that have been beautifully transformed into furniture. I decided it was time to pull them all together for a post on the subject. I may try something like this one day but having worked in logistics briefly I would certainly make sure they were decent pallets as I have seen some really dirty splintery ones!

I think I would keep it simple and go for something like a coffee table - what would you make?

Clip Art

I love finding new and different ways to display photographs and art. I have seen a few examples recently of using clip or trouser hangers (pant hangers in the US) as a way of displaying your pics. Now I love an art wall with and eclectic mix of frames but I think there is definitely room for this too, especially in a work room or for kids art if you want to rotate the art on display quickly and easily.
